Murat and I left Istanbul at 3 AM (top) and had our first stop over in Munich (above). We were there for about 6 hours. After breakfast we killed time by drinking the free tea and coffee provided for us, and doing sudoku.
When we finally arrived in Rome we took the Leonardo Express from the airport to the Termini train station. We followed the directions and finally made it to our hostel. We were staying at Plus Camping Rome and were upgraded to a cabin from a tent house (for free!). This was totally awesome because the cabin has a shower inside, AC, and a fridge.

This is exactly what are room looked like (but the other people were not included ;) We explored our place the first day since it was too late to do much. It had a market, laundry, restaurant, bar, pool, and more. It took about 30 minutes to get from our place to where we wanted to go but it was such a good price that it did not matter at all in the end. Murat and I decided that we should visit the Vatican City and San Pietro the first day. The pope was speaking later in the week and we did not want to get caught in all of that.
When Sarah and I were in Rome in 2003 it was the summer of the HUGE heatwave in Europe. When we went to the Vatican Museum we skipped the museum and went straight for the Sistine Chapel (there is no AC in the museum). Now the museum is set up so that you follow the sign for the Sistine Chapel and it takes you through the whole museum. It was raining on and off our first day so we did not mind seeing everything at there were some neat exhibits. These are from the Egyptian Exhibit:

I thought I was getting out of the way in this last picture, (but was included anyway ;) hence no smile. Then there was the gallery of statues and we had fun with those:

He totally had Murat by the hair until I came to the rescue (statues can be scary!)
Anyway... there was also an Etruscan exibit and much more. You could also sneak views of San Pietro from various windows.
Finally we made it to the Sistine Chapel. Still such an amazing place. Since you are not allowed to take pics or talk (even though all the rude people do!), I got these images from the web:
God creates Adam- Michaelangelo
The Last Judgement- Michaelangelo
Interior of the chapel
Murat and I sneaked out the shortcut way with a tour group from Spain. It takes you straight to San Pietro with out waiting in lines ;)
Inside San Pietro (Murat's first of many churches during this vacation) is so impressive. We wandered around and soaked in all the little details.

Seeing the whole Vatican Museum and San Pietro only took until lunch, so Murat and I headed to the Piazza Navona for lunch and to decide where to go next.....
